As the Line of Light travels west, the Welcoming the Light celebration will take place in Carlisle. The city will come alive as a torchlight procession winds its way through the streets of Carlisle. To the uplifting brass sound of street band Tongues of Fire, costumed characters and musicians will fill the streets with light and sound. Impressive fiery engines from Pandeamonium and thousands of flickering flames will accompany the revellers on their way.

Leading the parade through the city will be the ethereal Heliosphere. This giant, floating lantern with its seemingly weightless acrobats will offer a mesmerizing tribute to this memorable event.

The procession has a twist. This very public event is designed to involve the public at every stage. As a visitor to the event, you will parade through the streets carrying flaming wax torches and dressed to Glow!

Taking part in the parade is free, official wax torches can be bought for £3 in advance or £4 on the day from Carlisle Tourist Information Centre on 01228 625600 or at www.golakes.co.uk/shop . We strongly advise purchasing in advance in order to guarantee availability. All profits will be donated to a local charity.

Be there at 5.30pm, outside Carlisle Tourist Information Centre, Old Town Hall, Greenmarket, Carlisle CA3 8JE.  The Light is expected to arrive in Carlisle at 6.40pm.
