Segedunum Roman Fort
Wallsend is where it all begins. Segedunum Roman Fort, the eastern most fort on Hadrian’s Wall is hosting the launch event for this iconic celebration.
Before the light flies away into the night sky, a theatrical public performance by internationally renowned company Theater Anu, based on the almost lost myth of the winged boy will take place at this historic site. As the festivities reach their culmination and night starts to fall, the first light will be ignited, heralding the start of this epic journey.
Since the Wall was built on the order of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in AD122, never has such an awe-inspiring event dared to take place along its path.
Be there when the lights go on. The performance starts at 5.15pm at Segedunum Roman Fort and the ignition of the Line of Light takes place at 5.45pm. This is a free event and tickets are not required.
A reserved area is provided for wheelchair users. In this case visitors should report to the overflow car park on Station Road.
