Some ideas to get you going

Hadrian’s Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – one of the World’s most important pieces of cultural heritage. UNESCO believes that such places should be protected for all mankind but that they should also contribute to the social and economic benefit of local communities.  Sustainable tourism is one way in which World Heritage Sites can benefit local communities.

Hadrian’s Wall was not just a Wall – it was the centre-piece of the north west Frontier of Imperial Rome, one of the largest Empires the World has seen. The Frontier evolved and adapted over 400 years.

The garrison along Hadrian’s Wall was multi-cultural – thousands of soldiers from all over the Empire were garrisoned in the forts along the Wall, down the Cumbrian coast and along the strategic roads of northern Britain.

Frontiers and Walls continue to divide peoples across the World today, in Palestine and in Mexico for instance.

Multi-culturalism, identity, Frontiers, communications, World Heritage, Empires, trade and prosperity, exploitation and military force are ideas that resonate from Roman times to the World today.
